Friends hired it so he could fulfil his dream of fetching his bride from across the river by chopper.

"His friends heard that Antu had a dream," said local police chief Golam Haider. "They raised money to hire the helicopter so that Antu could have a royal wedding."

Bangladeshis, almost half of whom live on less than a dollar a day, spend a good deal of their savings on weddings.

The groom used the helicopter to fetch his bride from her village for Thursday's wedding and the couple later returned on the aircraft to her village -- this time as man and wife.
