According to sources, the state police have sought the interrogation report of Aftab Ansari carried out by the Kolkata police after his arrest in connection with the terrorist strike on American Centre.
The cops are trying to find out whether the contacts of Ansari may have carried out the blasts in Varanasi.
It is said after being sentenced to capital punishment by the court in Kolkata on April 27 last year, Ansari had talked to a man in Varanasi on telephone. Later, on the basis of electronic surveillance, the Kolkata police had arrested the local suspected man here and had taken him to Kolkata on transit remand.
The office of the DGP in UP has also sought the interrogation report of Lashker - e - Toiba terrorists Tariq and Abdullah along with the report of Aftab Ansari lodged in Kolkata jail. Necessary instructions have been issued by IG KL Meena here to his subordinates to find out local contacts of Aftab Ansari in the city.
The name of Aftab had surfaced in the local crime world about 12 years ago when he had looted Rs 3 lakh from an accountant of a private firm. Later, he was allegedly involved in kidnapping of several heavyweight traders in different parts of the country.
Chargesheet filed POLICE FILED chargesheet against jailed independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari about the sensational murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, in the court of Additional CJM Pramod Kumar in Ghazipur on Monday.
Investigating officer NP Singh described the MLA as a conspirator in connection with murder of the BJP MLA and six others in Ghazipur on November 29, 2005.
Ansari was supposed to be produced in the court today but the jail superintendent gave a petition to the court that the accused, following some problem in his throat, had been referred to the KGMU in Lucknow. The court has fixed the March 26 for producing Ansari in court in Ghazipur for hearing.
