Students should participate in conferences and interact with outside students to evaluate themselves comparatively, he said. Prof Joshi was addressing the inaugural session of fourth Meghnad Saha lecture on ‘From Big Bang to Black Holes’ hosted by Physics department of Allahabad university.
Prof Joshi advised students to take opinions from big brains and focus on their target. He said research students should make extra effort instead of continuing routine work. He said teachers should try to retain the past glory of the department through dedication and persistent hard work, besides guidance, motivation and innovation with students.
Eminent astrophysicists and Fellow of Royal Society London and ex-director NCRA Pune, Prof Govind Swaroop, recalled his days at AU’s PC Banerjee Hostel and said that he learned a lot at the varsity.
He explained different stages of advancement in astrophysics till 2002. He explained about important astrophysical processes, including microwave radio emission from the sun, big bang model of the universe and many others.
Earlier, Allahabad University vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe presented a memento to Prof Swarup and insisted on hard work for academic excellence.
