Instead of 35 kilograms earlier, these families are getting 28 kilograms of foodgrain per month. Now, the district Collector Sanjay Kumar Shukla has written to the Food and Civil Supplies Department to provide sufficient foodgrain for the district.

The Collector said that beneficiaries of fair price shops (ration shops) in Bhopal were not getting total benefits of the Government schemes due to this curtailment.

It is stated that the Food and Civil Supplies Department was earlier providing 5151 metric ton foodgrain to Bhopal district. Now, this was reduced to 4547 metric ton.

Therefore, there was curtailment of 604-ton foodgrain. This has adversely affected the functioning of public distribution system in the State capital, he added.

In Bhopal, 1.46 lakh families are having ration cards of below poverty line (BPL) and Antyoday Yojana. The district administration has urged the food and civil supplies department to restore the earlier supply.
