Mohan, 60, is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters, a party press release said.

Mohan had contested the Lok Sabha elections in May this year from Madurai but lost to MK Alagiri, son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and presently Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister. During the elections itself he was hospitalised and underwent surgery.

Mohan was treated at a government hospital for the past one month, the release said, adding, he was shifted to the private hospital as his condition worsened.

His demise was a huge loss to the party, the release said, adding, the funeral would be held on Saturday in Madurai.
