Former Gujarat CM's wife dies in fire

Leelaben, wife of senior BJP leader Keshubhai Patel, was in the exercise room when the incident took place.

The wife of former Gujarat chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Keshubhai Patel died in a fire accident on Thursday morning at their residence.

Leelaben Patel, 76, was in the exercise room at 7.00 a.m. when the incident happened. A short circuit is said to have caused the fire.

The former chief minister was in another room when the fire broke out and the security personnel came to know about it only when they saw smoke billowing out of the bungalow.

The post-mortem has been done and the body would be cremated in the evening. Top BJP leaders would attend the funeral.
