Singh was arrested by police at Ambala Cantt and booked under various IPC sections. Congress supporters, who tried to stop the police, were removed from the road using mild force, police said.

Singh was arrested on charges of beating polling official Vishal Sharma, brother of former cricketer Chetan Sharma. Singh accused Sharma of "directly helping" Indian National Lok Dal candidate Balwant Singh.

The Congress leader alleged that police had beaten him before he was arrested and a complaint in this regard would be made.
