Two police personnel, including an Assistant Commissioner, were on Monday suspended in connection with the ruckus involving a foreign national at the International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram last week.
Sanghumugam Assistant Police Commissioner Sanalkumar and Velliyathura Sub-Inspector Prithiviraj were suspended, official sources said.
A British citizen of Egyptian origin, Ahammad Muhammad Al Jalak, allegedly beat up security personnel at the International Airport in an inebriated condition last week. He was arrested and let off immediately, after charging him with some minor offences last week.
However, CISF, in charge of the airport security and the Intelligence Bureau, took objection to the way the case was handled by local police as the issue involved questions of security.
Jalak who surrendered before the police on February 11 was now out on bail. He told police that he came to Thiruvananthapuramg from the state for business purposes.
Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly, Oommen Chandy, had sought action against the police personnel, who had let off the foreign national without proper investigation, and also against the accused in the case.
