Future of 225 candidates at stake

Over 10.13 lakh voters sealed the fate of 225 candidates from seven national and three regional parties in Wednesday's polls.

After a month-long hectic electioneering in Nagaland, over 10.13 lakh voters sealed the fate of 225 candidates representing seven national and three regional political parties in Wednesday's Assembly elections under the shadow of large-scale pre-poll intimidation and threats by various forces.

The election department had launched extensive awareness drive among the electorate in the past few weeks about the operation of the electronic voting machines which will be used for the first time in Nagaland.

Although there are seven national and three regional political parties in the fray, the main battle of ballot is confined to the ruling Congress and newly-formed Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) with Nagaland People's Front (NPF) and BJP being two of its major constituents.
