"Why should I not come to Lucknow and fight for you?" asked Rahul and left local leaders guessing on whether he would actually do so or if it meant he would be the party's CM candidate.

"He is a PM candidate and so his projection as CM candidate is a remote possibility," said a leader.

Others read a message in: "Phulpur is the karmabhumi of Nehru. He had shown the path of progress to the state from here". A slogan on the dais summed up the party spirit: "Utho, Jago, Badlo Uttar Pradesh".
