AKBAR’S FORT will glow in all its magnificence. And it will happen with the arrangement of floodlights in this structure of historical importance.

This major step is being undertaken in view of the approaching Ardh Kumbh mela in order to enhance the overall appearance of the city.

This decision was undertaken in a meeting held on October 10 at Allahabad which was attended by Azam Khan, Urban Development Minister, the district administration, the army officers and officials belonging to Tourism Department.

District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat said that in his discussion with Sub-Area Commander Brig Yadav, the army officers have consented for the lighting arrangement of external area of the Fort. The internal area will not be touched because of security considerations.

According to RK Yadav, regional tourist officer, the entire project of lighting Akbar's fort would cost about Rs 128 lakh. "The project will include the arrangement of floodlights in the exterior portion of the Fort.

This will make the Fort glow. We are planning for the installation of high masts also. There will be the system of timer switches," said Yadav.

"There were also discussions regarding having a liberal approach towards pilgrims who are interested in visiting the Fort. The military officials were requested to permit more people to visit the Fort during Ardh Kumbh. They agreed towards planning for the measures they could undertake in this regard," added Yadav.

Yet another project of arranging for the lighting and beautification of Khusro Bagh is on the cards. "This project has been prepared with the entire expenditure amounting to Rs 98 lakh which has been divided into two parts. For arrangements and management of the interior portion and lawns there will the expenditure of Rs 37 lakh while for the arrangement of floodlights, Rs 61 lakh has been proposed," said RK Yadav.

There will also be an endeavour for the overall beautification of Khusro Bagh. This also involves landscaping. Horticulture department is supporting the project.
"The project is being sent to the government for approval and the work is likely to start soon," said Yadav.
