You will soon get your driving licence by sitting on a computer in one of the offices of the Transport Department instead of dealing with touts or middlemen.

The Transport Department has prepared software for issuing learners' licence online. A pilot project of the scheme has been displayed at the Delhi pavilion of the trade fair. "More than 10 people have already been issued the learners' licence so far," Chikkara said.
All you need to do is to answer the questions that the computer asks you. After the test, the computer itself will monitor the result and tell you whether you have passed or failed.
Motor licensing officer (projects) Anil Chikkara said the software would have around 3000 questions and the computer would ask questions on a random basis.
According to officials, there are two kinds of software - Saarthi and Vaahan. While Vaahan is already operating and issuing smart cards for newly registered vehicles, Saarthi would be put to use after the trial run. "After Saarthi is introduced, the whole process of issuing learners' licence would be at the click of a button," the official said.
