The police have booked brother Deepak, 20, under section under 306 (abatement to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), while victim's father Daya Kishan and mother Banaspati, and 40 others booked under Sections 201 (causing disappearing of evidence) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. All three have been arrested.

On May 30, school and college students blocked traffic on the Hisar-Rohtak road, demanded the arrest of deceased's relatives. They alleged that Deepak had raped the victim and later killed her to evade arrest.

"On May 24, Deepak found her sister talking on cell phone with a boy of the same village. He beat up his sister, forcing her to end life by hanging from a ceiling fan," Meham station house officer Kuldeep Beniwal.

He said Deepak had confessed to crime. "He said his parents cremated the body discreetly and told villagers that she was found dead."
