In a suspected case of honour killing, an 18-year-old girl along with her lover was allegedly poisoned to death by her family members, police said on Friday.

The victims identified as Bothi and 24-year-old Sanjay, hailed from Garhi Hasanpur village of Uttar Pradesh, they said.

Police have charged the girl’s father Dhum Singh, brother Om Singh and uncle Jasbir Singh with murder.

The couple was allegedly kidnapped from the local railway station and were then dumped near between NDRI and model town area here on Wednesday evening, police said.

The police took them to a local hospital for treatment where Sanjay, who was already married, and Bothi died on the same night, police said.

Before her death, the girl gave a statement that they were poisoned by her family members, police said.

“We have sent the bodies of victims for autopsy and its report can throw light on the reason of death,” Government Railway Police (GRP), Karnal SHO, Ajay Kumar said, adding that no arrests have been made so far.
