GLOBALISATION AND its impact was explained threadbare by the Allahabad University vice-chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe during his talk on ‘Globalisation and India’ at the AU Department of Political Science on Friday.

Harshe, in his lecture, raised four important questions: What is globalisation?, how has it affected India’s development?, what are policies with neighbouring countries and global powers and what are the trends in globalisation and its prospects? Harshe highlighted both-positive and negative-aspects of the globalisation.
He said that India had adjusted well in all conditions and globalisation was no exception. “Globalisation has provided impetus to India’s development. India has sustained a healthy growth rate since its experiments with globalisation that started in 1991,” he said. Prof Harshe was optimistic that India was set to push the growth-rate.
He cautioned that development should not exclude poor and rural populace. He emphasised the need to address the problems of disparities among people and regions.
Prof MP Dube, head of AU Political Science Department, welcomed Prof Harshe while Prof Mohd Aslam proposed a vote of thanks.
