Gold broke all previous records and touched a new high of Rs 8,150 during early trading on the Bullion market on Tuesday on heavy stockists' and jewellers' buying after a sharp rise in the global prices.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) started the day on a new life-time high of Rs 8,150, showing a steep rise of Rs 80 over Monday's close of Rs 8,070.

Similarly, pure gold (99.9 purity) also opened on a historic high of Rs 8190 on heavy buying.

The previous record high for standard gold was Rs 8100 and for pure gold it was Rs 8145 both recorded on December 21, 2005.

Attributing the historic rise to firm global advices, dealers said the metal shot up at the New York Mercantile Exchange on Monday on strong buying in Tokyo and was quoted at $566.75 per ounce as against the previous level of $562.45.
