Golden oldies

The fact that musical compositions created 40 years ago still reverberate in our hearts is proof of its superiority of the music of that era.

This refers to the views expressed by Deepa Gahlot and Khayyam on World Music Day in ‘Crazy kiya re’ (June 27). One is tempted to agree with the critics’ view that music like everything else has to undergo change. But change at what cost? One cannot but agree with Khayyam’s observation that modern music composers have failed to stick to the roots of Hindustani music which have always been melodious. The fact that musical compositions created 40 years ago still reverberate in our hearts is proof of its superiority of the music of that era.
