Addressing a two-day national seminar of architects and a fair of building materials as the chief guest on Saturday, Sahai said, the role of architects was very important in development. They not only represent the building and construction but also the culture and heritage.

The function had been organised by Varanasi and UP Architect’s Association jointly.

Focussing on the significance of architects, he said, in the past, planning of construction, was not linked with architects but now the situation is different. Construction and architect advice is to be linked together for fruitful development.

“Space management is very important in construction of a building through proper design of a qualified architect. It is an architect, who has to keep in his mind the preservation of cultural and heritage spots with pace of modern construction. The new construction should also be eco-friendly with space of water harvesting in each building in wake of severe water crisis throughout the country from villages to metropolitan cities.

Expressing concern over neglect of architects by the government departments, he stressed the need for a law for qualified architects to address the builders and consumers. Their participation should also be ensured at government level.

The minister also felicitated some architects for their contribution in this sector.

Director of Central Tibetan Institute for Higher Studies, Prof N Samten, president of Varanasi Architect Association, Shyamal Singh, its secretary, Anural Kushwaha expressed their views in the function. Girls of Parini Girls College presented Mangalacharan.

Prior to it, the Divisional Commissioner, CN Dubey inaugurated the 21st general body meeting of UP Architects Association here. President of UP Architect Association, Rajiv Dwivedi, also addressed the function.

Addressing the function, he stressed upon the need for architects to develop multi-storied flats in a more proper way to remove the imbalance between growing population and lack of land. Hundreds of building material companies, including Prayag Bricks, displayed their tiles and red bricks in the fair.
