The post of Deputy Superintendent of Jails had been vacant for more than four years, Confederation President C H Balamohanan and Secretary R Anandarajan said in a release.

Four posts of Assistant Superintendents of Jails did not have incumbents for nearly three years while nine posts of wardens had also been unfilled for some time now.

The administration of the Central prison were facing several problems due to shortage of staff.

They said all the prison staff should be enhanced to cope with the situation.

Citing that a principal warden and two other wardens had been recently suspended following the alleged suicide by a life convict in the prison, they claimed that the administration was only victimising the jail wardens whenever anything went wrong in the prison.
