Vajpayee said this new agriculture policy was prepared after conducting a thorough discussion with renowned agricultural scientists and farmers of the country.
“This agriculture policy will ensure quality production at international level and will also strengthen the agriculture sector of UP to combat global challenges,” he said.
He said efforts would be made under this new policy to strengthen the economic conditions of rural areas by increasing agricultural production with minimum cost investment and by giving maximum benefits to farmers. He said the State government would provide quality seeds to farmers and keep them abreast with the new technologies.
“The other things in the new agriculture policy are increase irrigation facilities, preservation of rainwater, recharging of underground water, easing the marketing of agriculture products and promotion of contract farming,” he added.
He said thousands of acres of farming land was used in urbanisation, industrialisation and in the construction of roads, hospital and other infrastructure.
“Therefore, the State government would launch a project to develop thousand acres of new fertile land by using big machines on infertile land like ravines,” he said and added that development of one lakh new fertile land in Uttar Pradesh through Bhoomi Sena (men power) was under way and it was giving fruitful results.
He said an agriculture promotion fortnight programme, kharif campaign, would be organised across the State from May 15 to May 31 in which seminars would be organised at Panchayat levels to keep farmers abreast with new agricultural techniques.
He further informed that soil-testing campaign would also be conducted under this fortnight programme.
