These posts were abolished in the year 2000 after the then UP State Electricity Board was restructured.
Rai said the State Government agreed to fulfil the demands of employees after a four-hour meeting at Shakti Bhawan in Lucknow.
Power Corporation chairman AK Khurana and managing director Avnish Avasthi were present at the meeting.
The government had drawn up a plan for recruitment of technicians, assistant engineers, junior engineers, linesman and other staff, said Rai, adding 350 assistant engineers would be promoted within two to three months.
He also said the chairman had assured him of regularisation of services of workers, discharging duties at substations and doing line maintenance.
However, Rai said the government had not conceded the demand to grant extension to employees on completion of 60 years of age, adding that the Sangathan would raise the demand in future.
He expressed doubt over the State Government’s claim that the power scenario in the State would improve by April.
He said though the government had taken steps to improve power generation, it would take at least two years for new units at Srinagar in Uttaranchal to become functional. At present, the State required 7,000 MW per day, but generated 2500 MW, he said, adding the State was importing about 1500 MW from the National Thermal Power Corporation.
He also said power rostering would continue in order to bridge the gap between demand and supply. However, he said generation by a 210 MW unit at Paricha would improve the situation. He said Anpara-C should be made functional in the interest of the people.
