UNION MINISTER for Fertiliser and Chemical Ram Vilas Paswan has said that the government is sincere about the restart of the closed Fertiliser Corporation of India (FCI) unit in the district and other places by 2009.

Paswan blamed political uncertainty in Iraq and Iran for the delay in carrying out the gas pipeline which caused delay in starting the closed FCI unit. Earlier he has promised that the closed FCI unit would function by year 2007.
Talking to media persons at the Air Force station on his way to Deoria to inaugurate an agriculture fair and farmers’ conference at SSBL Inter College, Paswan said that the faulty policies of the NDA government led to the closure of Barauni, Durgapur, Haldia and Sundari FCI units.
He claimed that government planned to dispose of the land and the equipment but he opposed the government that changed its stand. He called upon the farmers to pressure the government so that the closed FCI unit could be restarted.
Paswan reveal that government is considering a plan to carry out the gas pipeline through Bangladesh and Petroleum Minister had said that the supply of gas would start within two years.
He blamed the State Government’s faulty policies for shortage of fertilizer. Paswan said that there was no shortage of fertiliser and the Centre was providing the State Government with the fertiliser according to their demands. He said that the allegation against the Centre that it was creating hurdle in supplying fertiliser to the State was baseless and politically motivated.
However, he admitted that the complaint of fertiliser shortage had increased.
Thus, the Union Ministry of Fertiliser and Chemical had decided to establish a computer cell to monitor the distribution system.
