Congress activists, led by Member of Parliament Rajesh Mishra, observed ‘Sadbhavna Upvas’ at Azad Park in Lahurabeer area.
The MP said, “We want the social harmony of the city to remain intact.”
District Congress Committee president Satish Chaubey and District Youth Congress Committee president Dr Dayashanker Mishra ‘Dayalu’ lauded residents for maintaining peace at a crucial time.
Senior Congress leaders Vijay Shanker Pandey, Shiv Shanker Maurya, SP Srivastava, Haji Zubbair and Uma Shanker Shukla were among others who participated in the ‘Sadbhavna Upvas’.
Gandhi Vidya Sansthan (Rajghat) authorities on Monday also observed a fast at Bharat Mata Mandir at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth to protest against the bomb blasts. Institute director Prof Deepak Malik said people of Varanasi did not allow communal and fundamentalist forces to gain mileage from the bomb blasts. “For this, the people of Varanasi deserve congratulations,” he added.
Prof Surendra Pratap, Dr Muneeza Rafiq Khan, Kamaluddin Sheikh, Pratap Bhai and Amarnath Bhai also observed the fast.
Members of the minority community associated with Bunkar Bachao Andolan staged a sit-in at Vijaya Crossing to protest against the terrorist attack.
They raised slogans like “Terrorism can never break our unity”, “Stop terrorism”, etc.
Dr Mahfooz Alam alias Munna, Dr Moin Ansari, Haji Abdul Matin Masoori, Haji Abdul Majid, Waqi Akhtar, Masood Jamal, Mohd Shoaib, Mohd Hashim, Mohd Ibrahim and Iqbal Lale said, “We denounce terrorist acts unitedly.”
All India Bunkar Forum headed by Mohd Akram staged a dharna at Maidagin crossing.
