GRPF jawan killed, 3 hurt in Guwahati train firing

A GRPF jawan was killed and three others injured when unidentified miscreants open fired at a train in Asom's Rangiya sub-division on Saturday night, Railway authorities on Sunday said.

North Eastern Frontier (NF) Railways authorities in Guwahati said that miscreants started firing at the Arunachal-Express at 7.08 pm while it was entering the Khoirabari station in NF Rrailways' Rangapara section.

The GRPF jawan succumbed to his injuries at the spot and three others—another GRPF jawan and two passengers—were seriouly injured, sources said.

Three coaches of the train were hit by bullets firings, authorities said.

Top security personnel of the NF Railways have rushed to the spot. However, the identity of the attackers was yet to be ascertained, they added.

The Arunachal Express, a metre-gauge train, originates at Rangiya and runs up to Murkokseleng on the Asom-Arunachal border.
