Gujarat on high alert following Malegaon blasts

Vigil was stepped up on Friday at communally sensitive places, vital installations and places of religious importance in Gujarat after blasts rocked Malegaon town of Maharashtra, official sources said.

"Gujarat is already on high-alert following the just concluded Ganesh Chaturthi festival and the coming Navarati festival," KC Kapoor, principal secretary (Home) said.

"Following the blasts in Malegaon, vigil has been stepped up at places of religious importance like Ambaji, Dwarka and Somnath," he said.

"Security was also stepped up at vital installations in the state like dams, power stations and industrial establishments," Kapoor said.

Combing operations have been undertaken in some places in the state, the official said.
