Gujarati tourist dies as boat capsizes in Pahalgam river

A pleasure trip turned sour for a group of tourists in south Kashmir when the boat they were in capsized at a tourist spot in Pahalgam. One tourist lost life in the mishap.


According to the police, four members of a family from Gujarat were rafting in Pahalgam when it suddenly overturned and sunk.

Lidder river in Pahalgam, 90 km south of Srinagar, is known for gushing waters. Controlled rafting is a famous adventure sport offered on the river.

“All the four members fell into the rushing water,” said the police.

A rescue team retrieved three of them. However, Harsha, 57, wife of Mahendra Singh, hit a stone and fell unconscious inside the river.

“She succumbed due to grave head injuries in the hospital later,” said the police.

A case has been registered in the mishap.
