Gun-toting MLA triggers scare...but
...runs for life as Health staff give a hot chase
When I am silent my pistol speaks, and I get my work done like this — at gun point. If you fail to hand me the letter regarding cancellation of transfer order, your body would be riddled with bullets.
This is not a dialogue from a C-grade Bollywood movie but comes straight from former minister and BSP MLA Ghura Ram. Pistol in hand, Ram uttered these words while threatening a clerk in the Health Directorate on Wednesday. “Hand me the cancellation order or be ready to face the consequences,” Ram told the clerk.
Ram along with his supporters and a bodyguard walked into the Health Directorate at 3 pm and went straight to director general, Medical Health, Dr B Nath’s chamber. He urged her to cancel the transfer of Shatrughan Sinha, chief pharmacist at the District Hospital, Ballia.
At first, Nath refused to oblige the MLA but later budged under pressure and cancelled the transfer of Sinha. The file was immediately dispatched to the section concerned for releasing the cancellation order.
But eager to get the order at once, Ram also went to the section. He directed the clerk Ram Achal Dixit to hand over the transfer cancellation letter immediately. Dixit told him to be patient as the file had reached his table only a few minutes back.
But an impatient Ram was not ready to listen any more. He whipped out his pistol and pointed it at Dixit’s templet. “Hand me the letter else I will riddle your body with bullets,” he said.
A dazed Dixit called for help and his colleagues sitting nearby rushed for rescue.
But the supporters and bodyguard of Ram brandished firearms and threatened the clerks. Soon the news spread like wild fire in the Directorate and the employees rushed to the section.
Sensing that they are being outnumbered, the MLA and his supporters fled from the spot. The employees gave them a hot chase and thrashed some of the supporters. But the MLA got into a jeep and sped off.
The employees later went to Wazirganj police station to lodge an FIR.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Dr Nath said BSP MLA from Rasra Vidhan Sabha seat in Ballia district Ghura Ram met her on Saturday. Ram told her that Shatrughan Sinha was a handicap and urged her to cancel his transfer. Sinha was in-charge of drug store in Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office and was transferred to District Hospital located nearby the CMO. “There was no sense in canceling the transfer order, since it was located a few yards between the CMO office and the district hospital. Ram again came to my office on Wednesday. It was due to his fervent request, I ordered for the cancellation of the transfer,” Dr Nath said.
“I have informed the state government about the incident since the issue was related with an MLA”, Dr Nath said.
Clerk Ram Achal Dixit said the CMO of Ballia had issued the transfer order.
“Without quoting the letter number of the CMO, a fresh order for the cancellation of the transfer couldn’t have been issued. I urged the MLA to wait for a day or two till we get the letter from the CMO office but he was not ready to listen,” he said.
