Guru of the beauty business
You can spot him backstage at some of the best shows in Paris. Doing the couture rounds in the celebrated green-rooms each year. Clint Fernandez is the ultimate resource for designers who desire a creative edge in make-up and hair.
In the lobby of The Grand, venue of the ongoing LIFW 2004, the ever-smiling, highly energetic make-up artist spoke with passion about the new trends and the excitement of doing his first ever Lakme India Fashion Week.
"This is a different call of make-up because it demands a completely different approach. I want to look at the entire event from an international perspective. Make-up and hair styles at the Lakme India Fashion Week go beyond a commercial approach. It is all about spreading an artistic form at a larger level. It is all about imparting inspirational trends for the country to adapt and use," he says.
So what can we expect to see this week from the Clint palette? "Lots of colour and lots of shine. The faces are kept in natural skin tones but with high key accents on lips or eyes. Some eyes are done with a crazy creativity. There is also a lot of bronze. Among all the shows, I am very happy with the look for the Ranna Gill show. Because she shares a common view with what I imagined for her show – it will be quite a statement. Expect accessories on the face and unusual hair."
Continues Clint: "Rohit Bal’s mens makeup is also something I am looking forward to. Without disclosing too much, it has a very raw approach. For Muzzafar Ali, I want to keep it very beautiful with a classic edge. There are, however, interesting details that lend to the Indian style of Muzzafar Ali."
Any products from the Lakme Fruit Shock collection that he will use during the week? "Oh yes! I like the candy tones for lips! I am also excited to work on Anshu Arora Sen’s collection for the Lakme Grand Finale. There is a fun element in the clothes that is enchanting." With hours to go before the curtain rises on another show Clint is busy with his team planning the next day’s looks, to turn mere models into divas of the catwalk!
