A city court on Wednesday remanded film director Kaizad Gustad and his assistant Ashish Udeshi in police custody till June 10. Earlier in the day, the Government Railway Police had arrested the two men in connection with the accidental death of Nadia Khan on May 25.

Khan, a British national, was assisting Gustad in the making of the movie Mumbai Central when she was hit by a local train near Mahalakshmi station.
Gustad and Udeshi have been charged under Section 304A of the IPC (causing death due to negligence), Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 182 (providing false information).
A woman constable, Darshana Waiti, who was present at the Mahalakshmi railway station at the time of the accident but did not file a complaint was also arrested — under Section 201 IPC (causing disappearance of evidence) — and produced before the court. She was granted bail on a bond of Rs 6,000.
The magistrate criticised the police for booking Gustad and Udeshi only for causing death due to negligence, which is a bailable offence. The court, on its own, decided to book them for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If they are convicted on the latter charge, the two men face up to 10 years in prison.
