Jewellery market analysts in Lucknow say nearly 20 per cent of visitors to jewellery shops are males who shop alone for jewellery without being assisted by their spouses or girl friends. While the cost is a factor during shopping, most men go for the appeal in terms of looking “relevant” with the current fashion trends in Bollywood, says a prominent city-based jeweller. Fashion jewellery also has an element of superstition attached to along with the “astrological ramifications” says Amit Vaish who’s hooked to bracelets.

The arrival of branded jewellery has also made a major difference when it comes to accessories for men. Prominent Indian and international brands have made fashionable accessories all the more affordable for men, says Amit’s college-going friend Nishant!

What with jewellery now becoming a personal style statement, Lucknow men are leading the brigade, pitches in Nikhil who dare not step out of his house with his assortment of rings and chains. Ahoy all you gals, where are you?
