Ashwini Bhanudas Chate killed herself by consuming a poisonous substance at her native village Andhera in Deulgaon Raja taluka of the district on Saturday, they said. She took the extreme step as she was unable to bear the harassment by 23-year-old Deepak Kisan Sanap who sought sexual favours from her, police said.

The deceased was a student of Aurdheshwar Junior College and was alone in her house when she consumed poison.

The accused Deepak was having a one-side love affair with the victim, who had on the earlier occasions spurned his advances but he would not budge, said police.

According to them, Ashwini was first taken to Deulgaon Raja hospital and later shifted to Jalna where she died while undergoing treatment.

The youth, who is yet to be arrested, has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC following the incident, police added.
