Dhananjay Tripathi, who pursued the Yogesh Rai issue, handed over the Harikesh Singh Committee report to father of Yogesh Rai, Daya Shanker Singh.
It may be recalled that the Harikesh Singh Committee was constituted to probe the death of Yogesh Rai allegeddue to neglegence in treatment at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital on January 11, 2005 and subsequent violence on the BHU campus. The Committee report found that some health officials were involved in negligence of his treatment and had even recommended a CBI probe into the entire episode.
Since the BHU administration had declared the Committee report as a dead document and denied to hand it over to any one, the colleague of Yogesh Rai, Dhananjay Tripathi had filed an application with the Central Information Commission under Right to Information Act to get the copy of Harikesh Singh Committee Report in October, 2005.
BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof Panjab Singh, Registrar N Sundaram and PRO Dr Vishwanath Pandey were summoned by CIC for not giving the report to Appellant. Later, the CIC in its October 19, 2006 order, had imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on BHU Registrar for not giving the report to Dhananjay Tripathi.
Succumbing to the pressure of CIC, the BHU administration finally handed over the Harikesh Singh Committee report to Dhananjay Tripathi on November 4 this month.
