In a close finish, SP candidate Ganesh Pandey had won the election to the Vidhan Parishad sometime ago. The SP also defeated saffron forces in the zila panchayat chairperson’s election. The party has now won the Kauriram assembly seat, boosting the morale of its workers.
Ram Bhuwal Nishad termed his success as a victory against the politics of hate, which he alleged was being preached and propagated by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Yogi Adityanath in eastern UP. Nishad claimed that people of Kauriram had rejected leaders who sought to divide society on religious lines and incite communal tension.
Talking to mediapersons after his victory, he said the people of the area had reposed confidence in the leadership of SP national president and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. He said it was a mandate in favour of the SP Government. He said there would be now paucity of funds for development of the constituency.
Nishad claimed the BJP was virtually marginalised in eastern UP. If showing photo identity cards had not been mandatory for the electorate, the voting percentage and the marging of victory would have increased.
