LMC bosses claim to have acted against 266 meat shops in the residential areas, whereas LDA officials have acted against 150 meat shops in various localities.

The LMC sources admit to have identified nearly 300 meat shops operating in the residential areas. Out of which 266 are challaned and acted against. Areas like Billauchpura, Bherimandi, and adjoining localities have nearly 100 meat shops. While Alambagh, Chowk, Rakabganj, Moulviganj have a sizable number of meat shops. While LDA sources claim to have identified nearly 275 slaughterhouses operating in their residential areas. Out of which 94 are located in Hazratganj and adjoining localities. While 75 shops are operating in Hussainganj area, 44 in Mahanagar area and 24 in Gomti Nagar area.

An official of LMC said, “We have taken action against more than 266 meat shops and served notices to others after the last directives of the High Court.

However, prosecution proceeding have been launched against meat shops in the LDA controlled areas too.”

“Its easy to act against the pucca meat shops but those running shops in the kiosks often escape from the eyes of joint squad, we have prepared a list of people operating their business in kiosks, and surely we would act against them,” said chief veterinary officer LMC Dr AP Singh.

Meanwhile, meat shop owners have threatened to hold a demonstration in front of Vidhan Bhavan against the closing of their shops. The meat traders held meetings at two different places in Billauchpura and Bheri Mandi in which meat traders decided to fight against the High court ban on meat shop owners.

Meanwhile, meat supply to small hotels and restaurant owners has been affected.

Chief veterinary officer LMC Dr AP Singh said, “ We are not concerned about the dharna of meat traders. The LMC will ensure the execution of High Court directives. No meat shops would be allowed to operate inside the residential area, we will ensure removal of all the shops till next week.” The secretary LDA Vijai Kumar Yadav over the execution of High Court orders expressed similar views.
