
Heavy rush for admissions at ECC
THE RECORD submission of undergraduate admission forms at the Ewing Christian College (ECC) here indicates that getting admission in this premiere college will be a tough job.
The last date for sale and submission of UG forms at ECC concluded on Monday. According to the college records a total of 8924 forms were submitted till the last day against 1090 seats allotted to the college by AU.
According to ECC principal Dr Marwin Massey a total of 2568 forms were submitted against 200 allotted seats of B Sc (biology), 3385 forms against 240 seats of B Sc (Mathematics - 60 for PCM, 60 for PEM, 60 for PSM & 60 for PCAM) and 2,972 forms against 650 seats of BA. The given data on further calculations brings out a average of 14 students against one seat in B Sc (mathematics), 13 students against one seat in B Sc (Biology) and 5 students against one seat in BA course of the college.
The B Ed course has also received an average of 8 students against one seat in the college.
The college has a total of 100 seats for the B Ed course out of which 15 seats are for NRI quota and the remaining 85 seats received 650 forms from the students.
Dr Massey said that the college has maintained its academic status and has been admired as one of the best colleges of AU. With the enlisting of ECC by University Grants Commission (UGC) in the 50 top colleges of the country under its Colleges with Potential of Excellence (CPE) scheme, the college will receive special financial assistance of upto Rs 1 crore from the UGC.
This fund will be granted to the College to help it raise the academic and research work at par with other international level colleges.
The CPE status has also increased the popularity of the college and students have responded in great numbers to get admissions this time.
