Renowned Hindi critique and Sahitya Academy awardee Bachchan Singh passed away on Saturday. The 88-year-old Singh was suffering from respiratory problems for the last few months. When his problem turned serious, he was admitted to the Heritage Hospital in Varanasi where he suffered a cardiac arrest laston Saturday afternoon.
He leaves behind two sons and two daughters. His last rites took place at Harishchandra Ghat on Saturday evening.

He was known for introducing new style of criticism in Hindi Literature. His other well known books are - Nayi Kavita, Nayi Kahani, Upanyas ka Kavyashastra, Nirala Kavya Kosh, Adhunik Nibandha, novel- Laharen aur Kagar, Krantikari Kavi Nirala.
He was born in July 1919 in Jaunpur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh and studied at BHU.
