Hizbul commander arrested in Baramulla

Police has apprehended District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen allegedly involved in the killing of eleven people.

In a major success, Baramulla police has apprehended District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen allegedly involved in the killing of eleven people.

A police spokesperson identified the Hizb commander as Maqsood Ahmed Bhat@Tariq@Altaf Sheikh s/o Ghulam Mohammed Bhat of Mamoosa Pattan. He said that Maqsood was active since 1996.

Police has recovered one AK rifle alongwith two magazines from him.

The spokesperson said that Maqsood was also involved in the killing eleven people and was responsible for the murder of Mohammed Ramzan Main-President Municipal Committee Pattan, his two PSO’s and one constable from whom two INSAS rifles were also snatched on May 3, 2005.

"He was also responsible for the killing of Ghulam Rasool Bhat s/o Ghulam Mohammed Bhat of Goshwara Pattan on May 16, 2005. The deceased was father of a municipal councillor. He also killed Dr Reyaz Ahmed Bhat s/o Ghulam Hassan Bhat, PDP Block President on June 15, 2005, police said.

He said that a major tragedy was averted, when road Dominance party of 49-RR detected an IED at Bonigam under the jurisdiction of P/S Qazigund. The IED was later diffused safely.

A patrolling party of 62-RR Camp Imam Sahib was fired upon by some unidentified terrorosts at village Dreri Kalipora, under the jurisdiction of P/S Zainapora. In this incident one Army Jawan sustained injuries. The area has been cordoned and search is on for the terrorists.
