Honour killing: Girl killed, body set on fire in Aligarh

In a suspected case of honour killing, three brothers allegedly shot dead their 16-year-old sister on Monday and tried to burn the body.

In a suspected case of honour killing, three brothers allegedly shot dead their 16-year-old sister on Monday and tried to burn the body.

The incident occurred in Sabhapur village falling under Khair police station of Aligarh.

On June 14, the girl allegedly eloped with a boy from the same village. When she came back home on June 16, her brothers reportedly shot her in front of her parents.

After the murder, the whole family was absconding.

On receiving a tip-off, the police found the body and sent it for an autopsy.

Circle officer Dr Devendra Singh told HT that the victim, Devendri eloped with a boy from the same village. Her act enraged her brothers Dharmendra, Bhoora and Bhola, who shot her dead when she returned.

Afterwards, they tried burning the body after caking it with cow dung cakes.

Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
