“Pakistan Rangers fired with small arms and medium machine guns in the Pargwal sector first at 11.50pm on Wednesday for a brief period. It again started firing at about 4am on Thursday early morning which continued till 6am. Three BSF posts were fired at. India also retaliated in calibrated manner,” said a BSF official.

The Pargwal sector, which was not affected by recent firing, was chosen by Pakistan to hold the first meeting along the borders on Wednesday.

In the sectoral level meeting, which itself was a first after 16 such requests were turned down by the Pakistan, India lodged strong protests over the unprovoked firing. Pakistan in turn said the level of meetings should be scaled up to senior officer level.
