How to bond with your kids during the holidays

Get on an early morning breakfast trail Take an umbrella, shades and high-SPF sunscreen when setting out. Visit a neighbourhood bakery, smell the fresh loaves (taste a few too!), watch milk cans being unloaded and butter being churned at a dairy. Point out a cow and explain the origins of milk.

Make a bird feeder Hang it outside the window and add a water bowl. The birds will be grateful for the food and drink, and your tots will have a close-up view of these aerial beings. Identify common species and get the kids to keep tabs in a notebook. It will brush up their math skills and keep them occupied!

Paint a room Empty the room, arrange for non-toxic paint, brushes, old clothes and caps. You may be surprised with the results and may never paint that room again!

Learn from them Teaching adults makes kids feel important. This could be dancing, mobile phones and other gizmos, which today’s kids are so adept at.
