A self-styled area commander of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI) terror outfit on Saturday laid down arms before security forces in Kistwar in Jammu and Kashmir.

Abdul Majid Bhat, who was acting as a "tehsil commander" of HuJI in Kishtwar town, surrendered to troops of Rashtriya Rifles handing over an assault rifle with three magazines and 67 rounds and a grenade of Chinese make, a defence spokesman said in Jammu.
He said the terrorist of the Bangladesh-based outfit was locally trained and had been involved in terrorist activities since 2002.
