TENSION GRIPPED Barhalganj town, 50 kms from district headquarters, after sensational murder of former district president of Hindu Yuva Vahini, Sadanand Jaiswal (38), in the main market on Tuesday. Angry HUV activists went on that rampage and looted the shops and the residence of the main accused and tried to set it ablaze.

They shouted slogans and created a panic in the market, forcing shopkeepers to pull down their shutters. Soon everything came to a standstill and the town wore a deserted look due to the unprecedented bandh enforced by HUV activists.

Senior police officials reached the spot three hours later and tried to control the situation. Later, main accused Prabhakar Jaiswal alias Guddu surrendered in kotwali with his licensed revolver. Police took him into custody and heavy force was deployed at his residence.

According to reports, Hari Jaiswal and his brother Ramesh Jaiswal, who lived at Soti crossing, had a family dispute going on between them and a case in this regard was pending in the court. Their neighbour and Hindu Yuva Vahini leader Sadanand Jaiswal was trying to work out a compromise between the two brothers.

On Tuesday Ramesh invited Sadanand to preside over a panchayat at 8.45. When Sadanand was sitting at a teashop, Guddu Jaiswal arrived there by his motorcycle and opened fire on Sadanand with his licensed revolver. The firing created panic in the area. The locals rushed injured Sadanand to the government hospital from where he was referred to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way near Khaukhor village.

The news of Sadanand’s murder spread like wild fire in the town and an agitated mob attacked the hosiery shop of Suraj Jaiswal, brother of Guddu Jaiswal.

The mob also attacked the residence of Guddu and damaged the TV, fridge and other valuable household goods. They tried to set ablaze the house but police intervention brought the situation under control. The mob also staged a demonstration in front of Barhalganj kotwali and demanded the arrest of father and real brother of Guddu.

A case was registered against Guddu and Suraj Jaiswal on the complaints of Sadanand’s brother Dayanand.
