Driving for a shoot at Oshiwara’s Yashraj studio, Konkona Sen Sharma fieldsthe questions.

What have you been doing lately?
I’ve only been shooting. I’m currently shooting for Pradeep Sarkar’s next, Anurag Basu’s Metro, Anil Mehta’s Aaja Nachle and Rituparno Ghosh’s Sunglass. Workwise, I’m house-full.

It’s said you weren’t too keen to play the role of a sex worker in Traffic Signal.
Rubbish. Whoever told you isn’t okay in his head. Honestly, I was very excited about the role. I was apprehensive about it because I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to carry it off convincingly.

It’s known that Madhur Bhandarkar tried to promote Traffic Signal by using a piece of gossip about you and Ranvir Shorey.
Did you hear Madhur saying anything about us? Please don’t believe everything you read. It’s sad but I can’t help it. I know Madhur very well, he’s not the kind to resort to such cheap tactics. I’m very used to being misquoted.

News is that you won’t be working on your mother Aparna Sen’s next Bengali project?
True. I’m not working with her on her next Bengali film. Please explain to me, why should I do all her films? We’re mother and daughter; neither of us is on a contract to work with each other. I’ve done a couple of her films because I suited the roles. This time, Raima fits the character better than I do. I suggested Raima’s name for the role. My mother is fine with this. Our professional and personal relations don’t cross paths, ever. Mum’s film starts rolling in February or MarchwhenI’m busy with other films.

Don’t you think you carry a serious heroine tag?
I don’t do anything consciously. I’m very particular about the films I do. I’m very serious about my career. If someone feels that I carry a serious heroine tag, so be it.

One never sees you performing at stage shows and award functions.
I’m not too keen on dancing, I can’t dance too well. And that’s fine. I can’t do everything. The kind of films I do and I’ve done don’t have song and dance sequences. Other actresses are lucky with that (with dancing). It’s not a big deal to dance or not to dance.

Have you signed a deal with Yashraj?
I haven’t signed any bulk deal with them. Co-incidentally, I’ve landed two of their films back to back. Officially, I can’t talk about my roles or the stories of the films.

How come you never do TV commercials?
(Laughs loudly) You think it will work? I’m open to TV commercials, but no run of-the-mill types, please.
