Bipasha Basu on Tuesday showed true 'Indian spirit' by attending the Independence Day parade at New Jersey though two of its organisers allegedly misbehaved with her while driving together from New York in a limo on Sunday.
Basu, who was the chief guest at the event, in a note circulated to the media said: “I had committed to be present at the parade, so I decided to go ahead with it.”
According to Basu, she was in New York when she got a call to attend the parade. “I agreed because it was the Independence Day, and I had done a show with one of the organisers before.”
The incident has triggered concern over the security of actresses, who are often subjected to harassment. Basu, in fact, has been manhandled on several occasions.
Shocked by the incident, Dia Mirza thinks that one should think twice before taking up any assignment outside the country. Says Amrita Arora, “It is advisable to be part of a troupe which gives you proper security.”
Agrees Shilpa Shetty: “Sometimes people go berserk when they see their favourite actors. It's organisers' responsibility to handle things.”
Adds Suneel Darshan, who directed Basu in Barsaat: “I feel sad that this always happens with Bipasha.”
