Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar, who holds a 20% stake in the channel, too appeared before the I-T officials at the Nugambakkam office in central Chennai.

Summons had also been sent to Karunanidhi’s wife and Kanimozhi’s stepmother, Dayalu Ammal, who owns 60% stake in Kalaignar TV. She, however, did not appear before the authorities on Thursday.

DB Realty proprietor Shahid Balwa is a co-accused in the 2G scam and has been chargesheeted by the CBI along with former telecom minister A Raja, his aide RK Chandolia and former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura, for allegedly conspiring to sell valuable 2G spectrum waves to select companies at rock bottom prices.

The department issued summons to the Rajya Sabha MP after a Delhi court probing the 2G spectrum allocation on Tuesday exempted her from personal appearance in the court on May 12-13.

“Investigations are going on in Delhi and in Chennai and if need be they may be asked to come again,” said an I-T official on condition of anonymity.

The questioning went on for about 90 minutes. Soon after, Kanimozhi left the office through the backdoor to avoid the large posse of mediapersons waiting outside.
