I-T notice to Big B, seeks TDS details

Income Tax officials said the notice was a part of routine procedure.

The Income Tax Department has served a notice to film actor Amitabh Bachchan, seeking details of Tax Deducted at Source by the Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd in 2000-2005.

The notice has been served by the TDS wing of the Income Tax Department, Mumbai. However, IT officials said the notice is a part of routine procedure followed by the department.

The TDS wing of department, which has more than one lakh TDS assessees in the city, normally serves such notices to firms for submitting details of their TDS deducted on payments made to various parties, officials said.

The superstar was in news last month, when he had received a notice from the IT department regarding his personal tax dues, at a time he was admitted to the hospital. Bachchan had paid the amount of about Rs 5 crore from the hospital itself.

The issue had even created controversy in political circles with Samajwadi Party criticising the Government for slapping the notice on the mega star when he was in the hospital.
