IIT-K students protest quota

STUDENTS belonging to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) and Institute of Technology in Banaras Hindu University on Wednesday protested against the government move to introduce OBC quota in Central universities, IITs and IIMs.

STUDENTS belonging to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-K) and Institute of Technology in Banaras Hindu University on Wednesday protested against the government move to introduce OBC quota in Central universities, IITs and IIMs.

More than 4,000 students took out a march within the IIT-K campus and submitted a memorandum to the director of the institute. They tied black badges on their arms.

Students were carrying placards and banners with messages like “Let Merit prevail” and “Jaat paat mein mat baton, hamko keval padhney do”

The march started from the SAC ground and passed through all the hostel buildings situated on the campus and terminated at the office of the director of the Institute. Later they sent the signed memorandum to the President and the Prime Minister urging them to drop the OBC reservation move.

Boy and girl students belonging to SC ,ST and OBC category also joined the protest march.

On the other hand, students of Institute of Technology in BHU observed a ‘Pen Down Movement’. The wore black arm bands and announced a boycott of all classes, labs and examinations from today to Friday.
