In a survey of top 100 universities in the world published on Wednesday Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) made it to the league of best universities in the world. Oxford and Cambridge, however, claimed the second and third places.

Both Cambridge and Oxford were beaten by the American 'Ivy League' rival Harvard while two British universities leapfrogged over US rivals—Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale and Stanford—to claim prized positions.
IIT ranked at the 57th; Imperial College, London, graduated to No 9 while London School of Economics and University College London and Edinburgh made it among the top 30 in the latest Times Higher Education Supplement—QS World University Rankings.
