Illegal liquor supplier arrested

THE CITY police on Thursday arrested a member of illegal liquor supplier gang and recovered 6 cartons containing 72 bottles of foreign made liquor from his possession.

The arrested person has been identified as Naresh Gupta, a resident of Ramna village in Lanka.

According to information, the Lanka police was conducting a routine check at Bhikharipur crossing on Thursday noon, when a roadways bus was thoroughly checked, the police recovered 6 units of liquor containing 72 bottles of foreign made liquor like Macdowel, Green Label etc., from a jute bag and arrested Naresh Gupta.

The arrested person confessed that he was transporting the liquor from Madhya Pradesh. Gupta also revealed the names of the other members of the gang engaged in smuggling liquor.

As per his disclosure, the kingpin of the gang was identified as Sardar, a resident of Vindhya Nagar in Madhya Pradesh.

The other members of gang were Sudarshan, a local dealer of unauthorised liqour, Ravi and Vijay.

The station officer of Lanka Manoj Pant said that the arrested person also revealed some names of ‘white collared’ smugglers of Varanasi who were involved in the illegal business of supplying liquor in Varanasi.

He said efforts were on to arrest the other members of gang.
