WHEN IT comes to making promises, the Kanpur Municipal Corporation senior officials fall nothing less than promising the moon to Kanpurites. Pledging to streamline the functioning of the KMC, senior officials of the corporation have decided to decentralise the functioning of the corporation.
Municipal Commissioner Arvind Singh, while talking to mediapersons following a budget meeting, said under the decentralisation each zone would be a separate entity. Each zone would have a deputy municipal commissioner as its incharge, said the municipal commissioner. He said similarly, staff would also be deputed in the zones for the convenience of the public.
Singh said that the plan was the brainchild of the administrator. He said that the process would begin from April end. However, about its completion the municipal commissioner said that it would be completed in the current fiscal and later on he said that the work would be completed by May end. A total of Rs 20 lakh had been earmarked for the decentralisation process.
Unveiling another dream project, the municipal commissioner said that house tax assessment from the coming fiscal would be done through GIS map technique. He said that the GIS system software would be updated from image scaling of 1: 25 to one by one metre.
He said that the same would be imposed as the unit area rate. He said that the map would be available on the website.
The municipal commissioner said that a new numbering system would also be introduced for houses under the KMC purview. Besides, shops would also be constructed at Naubasta and Chandra Nagar area. Similarly, the municipal commissioner also said that a new policy would be framed for the advertising agency, which was expected to increase the revenue to Rs 2 crore.
The KMC would also ensure all round development of at least two parks in one zone in the coming fiscal. Besides, six medical parks and Smriti Parks would be developed. The KMC, said the municipal commissioner, would spend Rs 3.62 crore on purchasing equipment for cleanliness drive. The KMC would also introduce ‘Sajag Nagrik’ award from this year.
